The care centre opened its doors in December 2015, primarily as a non-profit rehabilitation centre to fight substance abuse in Primrose.

Since then, partnering with Ekurhuleni Social Development, it extended its services to the Dukathole informal settlement in Germiston.

This centre offers people from all walks of life a recovery programme for alcohol and drug rehabilitation.

They recently launched a project, Choices and Chances Project, which will focus on offering rehabilitation and social relief programmes in a form of a soup kitchen and sanitary towel drives.

Lwazi Zunga, the project manager said they have new programmes and partnerships to help them reach more people in their course.

The following programmes were launched:

Help us help a child

“In our fight to keep a girl child at school, we launched this programme.

“We will be supplying 60 children from the Hawks Academy with sanitary pads. Hawks is a school that we have adopted.

“We will also be working with the Wannenburg Clinic to assist young girls who go to the clinic to seek sanitary assistance,” said Zungu.

“The soup kitchen will operate on Thursdays in Dukathole only. We are in partnership with Miracle Connection Church in Fishers Hill. They have a soup kitchen on Wednesdays and it’s amazing how many people show up for a cup of soup.

“Our donations come from Macsteel and the National Lotteries Commission but we would appreciate anyone coming forth with donations.”

Group sessions are hosted in Primrose and Dukathole.

“Here we give support to addicts and alcoholics in the community and surrounding areas. We help you find your sobriety.

“The sessions will be starting the first week of September. We engage with a social worker who facilitates the session.”

“We offer one on one counselling sessions with a social worker. This way you have privacy and discussions with a professional in an up-close set-up.”

“The first step is to join our group and counselling sessions.

“We are working with Life Recovery Centre.

“They have nurses, doctors and they offer food all for free.

“They have an eight to nine months programme.

“We can only refer when there are beds available,” said Zungu.
