Miami Gardens Sen. Shevrin Jones is teaming up with several local elected leaders, municipalities and organizations to collect and distribute supplies for people in Southwest Florida struggling in the wake of Hurricane Ian.
Jones announced the effort Wednesday. His collaborators include Rep. Michele Rayner, Rep.-elect Ashley Gantt, Miami-Dade County Commissioner Eileen Higgins, Miami Gardens Councilman Robert Stephens, the city of North Miami, Pridelines, United Teachers of Dade, SEIU Local 1991 and SAVE.
Others taking part include Senate candidates Raquel Pacheco and Janelle Perez, House candidate A.J. D’Amico, Prism and Healthcare Against Hate.
“The massive devastation of Hurricane Ian has affected communities and upended lives across the state, and we extend our deepest condolences to the families of those lost,” Jones said in a statement.
“I urge all Floridians who are able to contribute what they can — be it time, resources, or supplies — to help with recovery efforts and support those most impacted by this tragedy.”
Priority goods include bedding and mattresses, clothing of any kind, nonperishable foods, women’s hygiene products, infant and adult diapers, paper goods, towels, charcoal, propane, gas cans, tarps, ropes, bungee cords, trash receptacles, tents, shovels, rakes and saws.
There are four donation sites:
— Jones’ office at 606 NW 183rd St., Miami Gardens 33169 (9 a.m. to 4 p.m.).
— North Miami City Hall at 776 Northeast 125th St., North Miami 33161 (9 a.m. to 5 p.m.).
— Pridelines Miami branch at 6360 Northeast 4th Ct., Miami 33173 (12-8 p.m.).
— Pridelines Miami Beach branch at 1130 Washington, Ave., Miami Beach 33139 (12-8 p.m.).
All supplies will be transported to Fort Myers. The last day to donate is Oct. 14.
Hurricane Ian made landfall on the afternoon of Sept. 28 near Fort Myers at near-Category 5 strength, bringing torrential rain, tornadoes and massive storm surges that flooded a large swath of the Gulf Shore.
The storm is among the deadliest and costliest to ever hit the state. More than 100 people are dead according to reports, and the damage to properties and public infrastructure in Florida is estimated to be “well over $100 billion,” according to disaster modeling firm Karen Clark & Co.

Uh..Oh…I do find it “odd” that the state senator is leading an effort along with other “lefty” organizations such as the unions and the gay groups to supposedly help those in Fort Myers. While I’m not surprised, the flyer is glaringly missing who exactly are the people and organization(s) in Ft. Myers that will be receiving and benefitting from these “donations”.
I think this is just a “shrill” and a sneaky way for the dummos, the gay groups and unions to try to make an entry into Lee County by way of collecting “donations”. All of these groups listed at the bottom of the flyer are left-wing, defund the police socialist organizations!
Except for those offices that are non-partisan, EVERY elected official in Lee County, and at the state and congressional level are Republican. The last time Lee County voted for a dummocrat for President was in 1944! What connections does dummocrat Shevrin Jones, Miles Davis, the unions and the gay groups have to any elected official or people in Lee County? The answer is NONE! What could any of these Miami-lefty groups have in common with the good people of Ft. Myers?
I think this is fake. Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno should insure that the donations have been received from these groups and are actually distributed – if not, begin an immediate investigation of potential wrongdoing.
Did you happen to notice that the first line of the flyer asks for undergarments? Gays are big into underwear and jockstraps. They are also asking for ropes and masks – don’t they use those items at twisted gay sex parties?
This “donation” ploy has to be some sort of gimmick or TicToc moment. What Republican or any people in Lee County will want to get involved with these groups – simply by way of association?
If this “drive” does happen – watch out for lefty campaign material affixed across the bags and boxes along with campaign stuffers inside the bag – with an envelope asking you to for a “donation” to the unions and left wing crowd! The PRISM group wants to teach the high school youth of Lee County about “sexual health”! WOW!!

At the very least, the FP reporter should have asked these groups who exactly are the “people” that are supposed to receive these donations? Nobody in Ft. Myers knows!
By the way…Please be sure the mattresses are BRAND NEW – god forbid that anyone receives a mattress where undesirable activities have occurred! YUCK!
